4 days Dogsled tour
Experience Nature-, and culture activities in the wilderness.
Day 1
We pick you up at the airport or train station in Kiruna or Gällivare. From there we travel by car or snowmobile to Piilijärvi Camping, a trip that takes about 45 minutes by car. After checking in at the camp we eat dinner together and we tell you of the week’s planned activities. Then you'll get to try out equipment for the tour such as winter shoes, snow suits, mittens, hat, etc. After trying out the equipment we will arrange with the dogs that the guests will drive and explains how we take care of them during the tour and then head out into the wilderness. The first day's tour goes through forests and lakes to our forest hut that is beautifully situated on the lakeshore. When we arrive at the hut, we all helps to take care of the dogs and feed them and we finish the evening with a dinner.
Day 2
We enjoy a hearty breakfast and feed the dogs. Then we head out for a full day tour in varied terrain forests, mountains, lakes, etc. The tour goes up to the low fjeld Loungastunturi where we have a wonderful view over the landscape. Depending on the weather conditions we can during the day try to ice fish on one of the lakes we passed during the day and hopefully we can enjoy the catch for dinner in the evening. We will stop during the day and prepare a light lunch over an open fire. The areas we travel in are we almost completely alone in. If we are lucky we might see elks, reindeers, eagles, foxes and wolverines. We finish the day with a hearty dinner in the forest hut.
Day 3
Today we will go hiking with snowshoes. Snowshoe hiking is one of the older forms of travel in our area. You get close to nature in a way that you have never experienced before. We prepare and eat a delicious lunch made from genuine Lapland food products in the forest hut. Then we harness the dogs and travel back to Piilijärvi Camping and civilization after some wonderful days together in wilderness. We end our tour with a shared dinner in the barbecue hut at the camp site with many wonderful memories and hopefully the desire to come back to nature. Before dinner you have the opportunity for a warming sauna bath.
Day 4
Breakfast and check out and transfer from Piilijärvi Camping.
Appendix: On departure from Kiruna, we can make a visit to the Icehotel during the 1th or 8th day if there are any requests.
